Opportunities Available

With the WVDCR, you have the opportunity to build your career in public service. We offer uniform and non-uniform positions and the chance to advance! As a Correctional Officer I, after a 12-month probationary period, and if conditions are met, you will advance to a Correctional Officer II position — and a pay raise.

*Depending on your educational background and past work experience, you may also qualify for select non-uniform positions. The opportunities are endless!
**Members of the WVDCR Special Operations Team receive a 10% stipend.

Interested in becoming a Correctional Officer?

Upon completion of the below employment information request, a team member from the WV Division of Corrections will contact you. Following that conversation, you may be invited to complete the formal application, CSI test and complete an interview process.

For the interview, you may be required to provide or bring the following:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Social Security card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of High School Diploma or GED*
  • Comfortable shoes

Prior to an offer of employment, a drug and background check must be passed.


Education and Trainings
Officers and positions with direct inmate contact attend four (4) weeks of training provided by the WVDCR Corrections Academy, located in Glenville, WV. Meals, lodging, transportation and hourly wages are provided. The WVDCR also has partnerships with Glenville State College and  the University of Charleston for continuing education opportunities.
