7/3/2025

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation is actively responding to a water shortage at Mount Olive Correctional Facility due to operational issues affecting the water supply from local Public Service Districts.

Health and safety protocols have been implemented to ensure the continued well-being of inmates and staff. These measures include the deployment of portable potable water tanks for cooking, bottled water distribution, portable handwashing and shower stations, and ongoing coordination with water providers.

“We have health and safety protocols in place to ensure the well-being of those entrusted to our care,” said David Kelly, Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. “Our staff is actively coordinating with local partners and bringing in necessary resources while the Public Service District and West Virginia American Water work to resolve the operational issues affecting water supply.”

The Division will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as appropriate.
