Jails Billing Information

The Department of Homeland Security & The Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation has the responsibility to disclose an update to Code §15A-3-16. Funds for operations of jails under the jurisdiction of the commissioner. Effective on July 1, 2023 the cost per day per inmate for incarcerated inmates shall be determined as set forth.

• The pro rata share of inmate days: 

• The base number of pro rata days;

• The reduced rate of the per day, per inmate costs;

• The increased per day, per inmate; and

• Any other information deemed necessary by the commissioner.

Discounted Rate: $43.58

Discounted Rate is 80% of last fiscal year's per diem rate and will be used for the first
      80% of a county's pro rata days.

Base Rate: $54.48
  The Base Rate is last fiscal year's per diem rate and will be used for days
       80% through 100% of a county's pro rata days.
