West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation Supports Disaster Relief Efforts with Supply Drive

WELCH, W.Va. -The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (WV DCR) today announced that Stevens Correctional Center (STCC), located in Welch, McDowell County, has returned to normal operations and regular staffing levels following widespread flooding. 

To support disaster relief efforts, an offender work crew and WV DCR staff have assisted at the McDowell County Commission loading trucks with bottled water, cleaning supplies, food, landscaping tools and heating accessories. Crews have made several deliveries to area fire departments.

"We are deeply grateful to the employees who have initiated a supply drive, gathering essential items like bottled water and cleaning supplies for those in need. This initiative is a powerful reminder of the kindness and solidarity that binds us together in the face of adversity," said Rob Cunningham, Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security. "Additionally, the collaborative efforts of the offender work crew and WV DCR staff in aiding disaster relief efforts highlight the spirit of unity and service that defines our community."

West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation employees have started a supply drive with bottled water and cleaning supplies to be delivered to the affected areas next week. 

"Staff at the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation have stepped up in a big way to provide necessary donations to our neighbors in need," said William Marshall, WV DCR Commissioner. "From our Central Office to staff and the work crew at Stevens Correctional Center to the donation drives at Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility and Southwestern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility and facilities across the state, we believe in the importance of stepping up and lending a hand to support our community."

Individuals interested in donating water and cleaning supplies can contact Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility by calling 304-256-6726. Donations are being accepted until February 25, at the facility's lobby. All gathered supplies will be delivered to the National Guard Armory in Welch on February 26. 

Members of the impacted communities who experienced flood damage are encouraged to pick up necessary supplies at the National Guard Armory in Welch.
